    Getting Started with AskAlex

    AskAlex takes 15 minutes to get running. Everything else is about making it yours — and that's where the real power lives.

    Think of it like moving into a new house. You can sleep there the first night. But over time, you arrange furniture, hang pictures, stock the kitchen. The house works either way — but one feels like your house.

    Getting Claude Pro

    Go to claude.ai

    Visit claude.ai and click "Upgrade to Pro" in the sidebar or top navigation.

    Complete the sign-up

    $20/month or $17/month with annual billing. Verify your email if prompted.

    Why Claude Pro? AskAlex is built on Claude's Model Context Protocol (MCP), which requires Claude Pro to access external tools and knowledge bases.

    Phase 2

    Connecting AskAlex to Claude

    Open Claude Settings

    Click your username in the bottom-left corner, then click the gear icon.

    Go to Connectors

    In Settings, click "Connectors" in the left sidebar.

    Add Custom Connector

    Click "Add custom connector". Enter "AskAlex" as the name. Paste the URL from your setup email.

    Connect & Authorize

    Click "Add", then "Connect". Sign in with your AskAlex email and password when prompted.

    Set Permissions

    Click "Configure" on the AskAlex connector. Switch from "Needs approval" to "Always allow" in the upper right.

    Verify It Works

    Start a new conversation

    Click the + icon on the left side of Claude to start a fresh chat.

    Test the connection

    Type: "List available workflows for AskAlex" — you should see 6+ workflows including qualify_opportunity, guide_sales_conversation, and more.

    Troubleshooting: If workflows don't appear, click the connector icon in your chat input bar and make sure AskAlex shows as "Connected."

    Set Up Your Project Workspace

    Create a Project

    Click "Projects" in the left sidebar → "Create Project". Name it something like "Q1 Opportunities" or "Enterprise Prospects".

    Add custom instructions

    Include details about your industry, deal sizes, sales cycles, and key stakeholders so AskAlex can tailor its advice.

    Pro Tip: Create separate projects for each major opportunity or industry vertical for the most targeted coaching.

    Connect Google Drive & Personalize

    Link Google Drive

    Settings → Connectors → Find Google Drive → Click "Connect" and sign in to your Google account.

    Organize your files

    Create an "AskAlex Resources" folder with subfolders: Company Info, Personal Profile, Sales Materials, Client Intelligence.

    Upload personal assessments

    Add your DISC profile, StrengthsFinder results, professional bio, and communication style preferences.

    Set your preferences

    Go to Settings → General → Profile. Add information about yourself so Claude knows your context.

    Name files descriptively so AskAlex can find them easily — e.g., "DISC_Profile_YourName.pdf" not "Document1.pdf".

    Settings → Memory → Enable "Remember details across conversations" so AskAlex builds context over time.

    Upload docs about deals you've won — what worked, what messaging landed, what the outcome was.

    Troubleshooting

    "AskAlex isn't showing up in my tools"

    Verify you have Claude Pro (not free tier). Check that Connectors are enabled. Try disconnecting and reconnecting.

    "AskAlex can't find my Google Drive files"

    Confirm Google Drive is connected in settings. Make sure files aren't set to "Private". Try explicitly mentioning the file name.

    "The brain analyzer isn't running automatically"

    It runs automatically for sales copy, but you can also request it: "Check this through the crocodile brain analyzer."

    "Responses feel generic"

    Have you uploaded personal profile documents? Try starting prompts with: "Based on what you know about me..."
